Najib: Be united to defend political power
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak urged the people to be united and defend their political power to ensure their continued progress.
In today's era of globalisation, people's success was determined by their intellectual power and adherence to positive values, he said.
"This is very important.
"This is very important.
"We need political strength for us to succeed.
"In this new era, one must note that military might is not permanent," the prime minister said at the launching of Majlis Silat Gayong Perdana, which was organised by Persatuan Silat Seni Gayong Malaysia near here.
At the ceremony attended by about 3,000 teachers and students of the association, Najib said the sharpest weapon was no longer a kris but political power.
At the ceremony attended by about 3,000 teachers and students of the association, Najib said the sharpest weapon was no longer a kris but political power.
"There will be a tomorrow for us as long as we have power.
"So, we must be united and not let anyone ridicule us or destroy the understanding that we have."
Najib said he believed some of the solutions to address social ills could be achieved if youth took up martial arts training because this would instil discipline and other values in them.
"We are proud of this heritage (silat gayong).
"The Malay world and civilisation is rich with values that have been inherited for centuries."
He said the practitioners of silat gayong and members of the association could be made part of the country's defence forces after the police, the armed forces and territorial army.
Present at the ceremony were Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Utama Mohamad Hasan, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Ahmad Maslan and Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Maznah Mazlan.
